TRIBE COMMUNITY POLAND TRIP - FIRST LED BY US LIVING & LEARNING
After the success of the first TCM Poland trip earlier this year, this week saw a second group of 20 participants spend a hectic 3 days in Poland with Tribe. This trip was led by Rabbi Michael Laitner who recently joined the US as part of the new Living and Learning department and was over-subscribed.
On this trip, the group visited meaningful and evocative sites of the Holocaust and were also educated in the way that the Jewish communities used to thrive in those areas. Discussions were held considering the impact events of the Holocaust have had on faith and the Jewish community. Participants came away from the trip feeling both emotional and invigorated and feeling an immense sense of pride in their Jewish history and heritage.
Lizzy Leigh from Mill Hill US who was on the trip said: “Going on the Tribe Poland Trip brought together all the pieces I’d learnt about the Holocaust in a moving and educational way. Visiting the sites of Krakow and Warsaw interspersed with relevant films, conversations, and a spiritual and relaxing Shabbat summed up an eye opening and heart wrenching experience. I have gained so much from this weekend and recommend it to every single Jew.”
Rabbi Michael Laitner, from the US’s Living and Learning Department said: “Visiting Poland provides an excellent opportunity for a group to consider the accomplishments of the Polish Jewish community over its long history until its tragic decimation by the end of the Holocaust. Jews have always striven for community. A group can laugh and cry together, gaining a more profound understanding of the Polish Jewish experience and its effects on us as Jews today. “
“Poland is a sharp encounter with one’s Judaism. As we live and learn Judaism together, we hope that the Poland trip will increase participants’ engagement with Judaism and the great adventure of Jewish history.”
