TRIBE INSPIRES JEWISH TEENAGERS IN BUDAPEST

This week Jewish Teenagers took to the streets of Budapest in the first ever Tribe Heritage Trip to the Hungarian capital. This trip saw almost 30 Year 13 students, who had all visited Poland with Tribe last year, come together to receive a 'shot of Inspiration'.

Budapest was once filled with hundreds of thousands Jews bustling through the streets. Now with just 80,000, these teenagers took steps to bring back the Jewish life that was once so vibrant.

The trip started with a tour of the three main Budapest synagogues. This was followed by a special Tribe Shabbaton. On Sunday there was a tour of Heroes Square, a ride on the first underground in mainland Europe and a small ceremony at Hungary's Holocaust monument on the River Danube.

Speaking about the trip, Josh Pomerance, Tribe Teens Fieldworker, said: "This was an inspirational and exciting Tribe weekend which will help these teenagers in the next stage of their lives. We wanted to build on the very special experiences they had in Poland last year and support the sense of community amongst this group.

"We celebrated Shabbat in a way that only Tribe knows how - beautiful services and a tasty Hungarian Kosher meal as well as games and discussions on our Judaism and how to keep in touch with it after leaving school."

Commenting on the trip one of the participants, Lee Baroukh of St John's Wood, said : "The sense of community and togetherness and the religious experience of this trip is one I will never forget."
