US RABBINIC INTERNS PITCH IN AT JFS

This year’s crop of six US Rabbinic Interns had the opportunity to test out their skills at JFS as well as providing extra professional support for local US communities over the High Holy Days.

In a new addition to the Rabbinic Intern Programme, the six Rabbinic interns ran Succot workshops with JFS students on Wednesday 15th September as part of their itinerary. This innovation resulted from a partnership between the Community Services Division at the US and JFS.

Commenting, Rabbi Andrew Shaw, Director of Living and Learning at the US, said: “This year’s High Holy Days Rabbinic Intern Programme had an exciting new element. The Rabbis ran inspirational educational workshops for JFS students focusing on the forthcoming festival of Succot. These workshops follow all the interns’ hard work helping to run extremely successful services in our communities over Rosh Hashanah.”

Mr Miller, Head Teacher at JFS added: "JFS was delighted to be part of this groundbreaking programme and to welcome the talented future Rabbis and educators of our community. We hope their visit provided them with an insight into the outstanding and rewarding work that being a teacher at JFS represents."

The Rabbinic Intern programme began on Tuesday 7th September with a welcome dinner at the home of US Chief Executive, Jeremy Jacobs. After spending Rosh Hashanah helping at US communities the Rabbis have had individual meetings with the Chief Rabbi and with University Jewish Chaplaincy. On Saturday night they were hosted at a melavah Malkah by Dayan Abraham of the London Beth Din. They also had sessions with key US figures in the Kashrut division, Beth Din, Tribe, Community Services, US Trustees and the Rabbinical Council before returning to their chosen communities for Yom Kippur. The programme ends on Sunday 19th September.

Benji Morgan, one of the Rabbinic Interns said: “This programme has been invaluable learning experience for me and I am also delighted to have been able to help the Mill Hill US community during this extremely busy period.”
