SEFER TORAH CELEBRATION AT TRIBE’S BIGGEST EVER SUMMER CAMP
Tribe’s biggest ever summer camp has celebrated the arrival of Tribe’s very own Sefer Torah.
Over 150 Tribe teenagers at the Tribe Summer camp took part in the Hachnassat Sefer Torah ceremony (the celebratory dedication of a new Sefer Torah scroll) complete with dancing, singing and rejoicing.
Rabbi David Mason of Muswell Hill United Synagogue also joined the festivities along with US Chief Executive Jeremy Jacobs, David Kaplan, Director of US Community Services and David Collins from Tribe. The ceremony was followed by a festive lunch.
After camp the Sefer Torah will be used for central Tribe events such as the Tribe Weekend.
Tribe’s residential summer scheme is being attended by young people from Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Bologne, Paris and London!
Commenting on the event, Rabbi Andrew Shaw, the Executive Director of Tribe said:
“This was a unique experience for Tribe teenagers. The Sefer Torah we welcomed is one that has recently been renovated so that it can be brought back into regular use. Tribe has also had a new mantel cover specially made for the Sefer Torah, complete with beautiful emblems to signify the 12 tribes of Israel.”
Rabbi Shaw continued:
“We are thrilled that Tribe will now have its very own Sefer Torah to use at its future events. This is yet another important milestone in the amazing growth of our organisation over the last few years.”
