ESTEEMED RABBI OF PINNER UNITED SYNAGOGUE RETIRES
It was announced at the Pinner United Synagogue AGM last night that their Rabbi, the longest serving Rabbi in any United Synagogue community, is to retire in October.
The honorary officers of Pinner US informed its members that Rabbi Grunewald has decided that he will retire on his 65th birthday, 26th October 2010.
Speaking at the AGM, Howard Lewis, the synagogue’s Chairman, said:
“For the vast majority of members living in Pinner, he is the only Rabbi they have known, whilst for virtually everyone, he will have impacted on their lives - often on more than one occasion.
“The Pinner community is indebted to the rabbi for his communal input, his humility and his efforts over the years to ensure the community has remained vibrant and unified. We are conscious of the huge esteem in which the Rabbi is held by our members. He has always been there for them.”
He added after the AGM: “It has been a real privilege to serve as Chairman of the shul during this period and to have worked closely with my friend the Rabbi.”
Commenting on the announcement, Rabbi Grunewald said: “It has been a pleasure and privilege to lead the Pinner Community for almost 35 years from very modest beginnings to the present day when it is a large, thriving and peaceful community with its own kindergarten, school, youth centre and a modern shul building with lots of facilities.”
The Honorary Officers of Pinner have launched a testimonial fund, set up by the members, to celebrate the Rabbi’s long tenure and devotion to the community.
