UNITED SYNAGOGUE EXPRESSES DEEPEST SADNESS AT PASSING OF LADY JAKOBOVITS
The United Synagogue has expressed its great sadness at the passing of Lady Amelie Jakobovits, the wife of the late Chief Rabbi, Lord Immanuel Jakobovits.
As well as being the founder of the United Synagogue Women’s Association, Lady Jakobovits made an immeasurable contribution to the United Synagogue, providing inspirational support and guidance to its communities, Rabbanim, members and lay leadership, both during her late husband’s tenure and beyond.
The President of the United Synagogue, Simon Hochhauser, will attend Lady Jakobovits’ funeral in Israel on Monday on behalf of the US and The Chief Rabbinate. He commented:
“Lady Jakobovits was the life of our community. On both a personal and communal level she was unstinting in her generosity. She was so proud of the work of her late husband, Harav Lord Jakobovits, and she was meticulous in the preservation of his memory in all that she did. Her uncompromising and unshakable adherence to our religion was always coupled with a tolerant understanding of the wide spectrum of people she befriended. I cannot imagine community life without this wonderful, warm, kind and vivacious lady.”
