ANNUAL DINNER GIVES WOMEN NEW RESOLVE
This week, the USWomen held a most successful Annual Dinner at Finchley United Synagogue with guest speaker, Lorna Fitzsimons, the Chief Executive of Bicom. Over 200 women came from more than 18 different communities across the United Synagogue.
The highlight of the evening was Lorna Fitzsimons’ speech where she spoke passionately about the events and the women who helped shape her life. She highlighted the positive influences which enable women to succeed including strong female role models, a cause to feel passionate about and a solid moral compass.
She also explained how privileged she felt to work within the Jewish community. She said: “Israel is a passion which unites many of us not of the Jewish faith” and reminded all present that Israel advocacy is something each individual is responsible for.
Commenting on the success of the evening, Dalia Cramer of USWomen said: “There was an excited buzz in the air as Lorna was talking; her passion was contagious and many women left armed with a new resolve to stand up for their beliefs and their passions.”
During the evening there were also several presentations made thanks to the generous donations of the various Ladies Groups and the US Women body itself. Vice-President Sheila Cohen made a presentation for the USWomen's bursary. This bursary will be used to help a young woman with her gap year studies in Israel. The were also cheques presented by Vice-President Stella Lucas to Flora Frank of the Friends of Kingsbury Mikveh and to Phillipa Ford of the Borehamwood Ladies Mikveh to help meet their costs.
