US EXPLORES GREATER COMMITMENT TO HOLOCAUST EDUCATION

US explores greater commitment to Holocaust education United Synagogue Chief Executive, Jeremy Jacobs returned last week from the March of the Living with a renewed determination to make Holocaust education and the legacy of Eastern European Jewry available to US members. He is committing £30k to Poland trips over the coming year.

Accompanied on the March of the Living by five US Youth Directors, Jeremy Jacobs saw first-hand the profound effect that the March had on the younger generation. Commenting on the US plans he said: “Already this year the United Synagogue through Tribe has organised two trips to Poland in addition to those organised by a number of our local shul communities. There is no question that these trips make an enormous difference to the understanding that our younger members have of what happened in the Shoah. As the years go by it becomes ever more urgent for people to hear testimony directly from survivors.”

Looking to the future, the US is planning to increase the number of places it makes available to members on these trips as part of its recently launched educational strategy. Emphasising this renewed commitment was the successful service that took place on Yom Hashoah at Edgware United Synagogue.
