US PUBLISHES MICROSITE TO AID SCHOOLS ADMISSIONS

With a new Schools Admissions Code in place, the United Synagogue has published a dedicated microsite to help parents and carers fully understand the procedures which must now be followed.

The microsite, which has been launched on the US website this week, includes frequently asked questions as well as guidance on how to obtain a Certificate of Religious Practice (CRP) form. Completing a CRP form is now a requirement for all those applying to a Jewish school or nursery under the religious authority of the Office of the Chief Rabbi.

The website also suggests educational and volunteering opportunities which, along with synagogue attendance, will enable families to demonstrate a practical involvement in what the Chief Rabbi has described as the three “pillars of Judaism” - namely Jewish learning, prayer and community based social action.

Those wishing to have their attendance at synagogue recorded, need to register with their local shul’s administrator, the contact details for which are all available on the new site.

Educational opportunities on offer through the United Synagogue include presentations on Jewish thought, women’s discussions on Judaism as well as talks hosted by leading community figures. The site also lists a variety of communal organisations with which CRP applicants can become involved to demonstrate their service to the community.

Commenting on the new microsite, Jeremy Jacobs, Chief Executive of the United Synagogue said: “The information we are providing on our website will be of great help to parents and carers who need access to the wealth of education and social action opportunities there are in our community.”
