US RABBIS SPIN THEIR WHEELS FOR CLIMATE CHANGE

Three United Synagogue Rabbis led a team of 22 cyclists from Edgware to Radlett United Synagogue yesterday (Sunday 6th December), just one day before the Copenhagen Climate Conference to promote sustainable living in the Jewish community.

The bike ride, called 'JEWCYCLE' was organised by the London School of Jewish Studies' Responsibility Unit, together with Project Chesed, the charitable arm of the United Synagogue with an aim to raise awareness in the community about sustainability, climate change and issues affecting the environment. The ride had a uniquely Jewish beginning with afternoon prayers and a blessing for road safety at the start.

Cycle leader and event organiser, Rabbi Natan Levy from Shenley Synagogue commented: "It was amazing to see fathers and sons, old and young biking together, though the combination of so many hi-vis vests and tziztis caused a lot of stares along the way. JEWCYCLE was a tremendous success and thanks to everyone who took part who showed that even the smallest acts - if done together - can make a meaningful difference to our environment and the way we choose to live our lives."
