THOUSANDS OF SHOES COLLECTED FOR AFRICA'S CHILDREN
The United Synagogue's Project Chesed has collected thousands of shoes from across the community which are now being transported to Africa to assist families who are unable to afford shoes.
Donations to the 'Shoe Aid for Africa' campaign were received from eleven synagogues across the community including a donation from Lady Elaine Sacks and a huge collection at Radlett Prep after a young member of Radlett United promoted the campaign within his school. Even Prada shoes made their way into the collection!
On donating shoes, Lady Elaine Sacks commented: "Whilst the giving of our shoes seems such a simple and obvious act, the difference it makes to the lives of these children and families in Africa is immeasurable and I commend Project Chesed for their efforts."
Candice Woolfson, Director of Project Chesed said: "In total we were able to collect near to 200 bin bags of shoes, and Shoe Aid for Africa were overwhelmed by our community's support. The shoes should arrive in Africa in time for the start of the new school term in January and it is heartening to know that so many children and families in Africa will have the opportunity to wear proper shoes in the coming year because of our members' contribution."
