YOUNG RABBINIC INTERNS JOIN UNITED SYNAGOGUE FOR YOMIM NORAIM

Eight Rabbinic interns, the majority of whom are currently studying at yeshivas in Israel, were brought over to the UK over the Yomim Noraim period to assist United Synagogue (US) communities with their High Holy Day services.

The group of young men, who are all currently studying for their Rabbinical ordination, assisted US communities in a variety of ways including running explanatory services, leading davening and running youth services. The communities involved in the scheme were Borehamwood, Hampstead, Stanmore, St Johns Wood, Barnet, Clayhall, Mill Hill and Radlett.

As well as joining with communities, the US' Community Services Division arranged a programme of activities for the interns aimed at increasing their understanding of the United Synagogue's activities. These included a day at JFS participating in a programme with 300 Year 8 students, a day at the US' Central Office, and meetings with the Chief Rabbi and US Trustees.

TRIBE Executive Director Rabbi Andrew Shaw, who organised the scheme, commented: "The programme has been a great success for all involved. The interns had an opportunity to gain a valuable learning experience and assist communities during their busiest time, and we also had the chance to demonstrate the range of work we are carrying out at the United Synagogue."

Daniel Low, one of the participants said: 'It was inspiring and heartening to see an organisation in the midst of real change, and to see the United Synagogue's passion for ensuring that Judaism is made accessible to everyone."
