TRIBE LAUNCHES TRAINING FOR LEADERS OF CHILDREN'S SERVICES AS YOM TOVIM APPROACH
Over 80 leaders of children's services from across United Synagogue communities attended Tribe's first Children's Services Training Seminar on Tuesday night. With the Yom Tovim fast approaching, the seminar was designed to provide participants with expert guidelines, to ensure that all children's services over the next few months would give attendees a meaningful and valuable experience.
The seminar, which was held at Hampstead Garden Suburb shul, included an address by the Chief Rabbi Sir Jonathan Sacks, who spoke about the importance of making services accessible to children so that their lasting memories of synagogue experiences were positive. The Chief Rabbi was joined by key speakers Rabbi Lister of Edgware Synagogue and Rabbi Andrew Shaw, Tribe Executive Director, who spoke of the value in sharing best practice across the United Synagogue. Woodside Park member Daniel Wolinsky presented an innovative children's shul programme designed to encourage children to participate in the main synagogue using the model of a football squad! Attendees also took part in workshops focusing on delivering services to different age groups including toddlers and teenagers.
Jonathan Ross who attended from Woodside Park shul, commented: "We place a huge amount of importance on ensuring that our younger members feel involved and valued during shul services, and the seminar provided an excellent opportunity to hear from some inspirational speakers and develop new ideas for the forthcoming chagim.
Yisroel Binstock, Tribe Education Director, commented: "This is the first time that Tribe has run a Children's Service training programme and it is wonderful to see that so many people are interested in making a difference to the children's services in our communities. In the build up to Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, this was a great opportunity to hear some original ideas from some children's service experts."
