POLISHING UP THEIR ACT FOR THE FESTIVAL

The silver cleaning programme started by the United Synagogue's Project Chesed and learning disability charity Kisharon has brought a shine to the menorot of many US shuls.

Kisharon adults with special needs have been busily engaged in the enterprise. It is part of the training and support geared towards developing members' skills and independence.

Employment manager Rabbi Shlomo Weltman reported: "The people we support have thoroughly enjoyed visiting a range of different shuls polishing their silver. They have taken great pride in their important work and are happy to be able to make a significant contribution to the wider community."

Satisfied customers include Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis of Finchley Synagogue, who said: "This project is really wonderful and the silver that was polished last week was hugely appreciated in shul on Shabbat."
