MARRIAGES NOW ONLINE

People trying to trace their roots are being offered a helping hand by the United Synagogue. In a new initiative launched this week by the US Community Division and the Jewish Geneaological Society of Great Britain, historic marriage authorisation indexes from the Office of the Chief Rabbi are being posted online.

The register, initially covering the period from 1880-1886,contains details fof brides' and grooms' English names as well as the date and location to tie the knot.

Further indexes covering the years up to 1908 will be added over the coming months. they will then be updated annually, following data protection guidelines which prevent the publication of records less than 100 years old.
