TRIBE SHABBATON
Over 200 gap-year students went along to the latest Shabbaton run by Tribe, the United Synagogue's youth wing. For the first time organisers ventured outside of Jerusalem, and ran the weekend in Beersheva. Attracting participants from more than 30 year schemes, it afforded the opportunity for people to meet over Shabbat meals. There was also a panel discussion on issues facing Anglo-Jewry, featuring the London Beth Din's Dayan Yonatan Abraham, United Synagogue vice-president Keith Barnett, Tribe executive director Rabbi Andrew Shaw and programme director Charlotte Klein. The initiative was welcomed by Jonathan Sherman, who is spending his year at Yeshivat Hakotel. "Although we all chose different places to spend gap year, Tribe brought us all together, giving us the chance to see old friends, and make new ones," he reports.
