US AIDS NEEDY DURING PESACH

The United Synagogue has coordinated 33 of its congregations this year to aid needy members as part of its Pesach social action projects.

More than 450 food parcels are being sent to members in need of support and assistance during the festival period, while 16 US communities will be hosting communal sedarim, at which the US will be subsidising some 45 places.

The mainstream Orthodox body is also supporting the wider community by coordinating a Chametz for the Homeless project. Eleven US congregations are collecting chametz, and the US is linking these shuls with local hostels where the food will be distributed to those in need. Candice Woolfson of the US Community Division, said: “Whilst for many, Pesach is a time to join together in celebration, it can also be an expensive time and a lonely one for those without family.”
