BRAWER ON THE MOVE

Rabbi Dr Naftali Brawer has been proposed as the next Rabbi of Borehamwood and Elstree Synagogue.

Synagogue members will question the Northwood United minister, next Wednesday and will vote the following day on whether the 36-year-old should replace Rabbi Alan Plancey.

Brawer, who was chosen by the synagogue’s selection committee this week, has been rabbi of the Northwood shul for ten years, and is currently a member of the Chief Rabbi’s cabinet, with responsibility for Jewish-Muslim relations. He told the Jewish News: “I am delighted to have been put forward and am looking forward to the challenge if I am approved.”

His selection may deal a blow to Edgware United Synagogue which was rumoured to be considering him for their vacant post. The shul refused to be drawn on the matter. An Edgware United spokesman said: “Our selection process is ongoing and we will announce it when we find the suitable person.”

Meanwhile, Rabbi Herschel Rader has announced he will be stepping down from the Woodside Park Synagogue pulpit in 2008. He has decided to leave to pursue other challenges after 13 years of service. Rabbi Rader said: “I will miss the vibrant atmosphere and valuable friendships I have forged.”
