DAVID COLLINS GIVEN TRIBE ROLE
Keen Zionist David Collins is looking forward to getting to grips with his new role.
The 21-year-old Glaswegian has been appointed fieldworker for youth group Tribe, which is part of the United Synagogues of Great Britain.
David - the son of Dr Kenneth Collins, president of the Glasgow Jewish Representative Council, and Irene Collins - has been involved with youth groups since he was a youngster in Glasgow.
He explained: "I was a member of Bnei Akiva for a long time, and spent a year with them in Israel before I went to university."
While he studied for BSc in business and business information at Manchester University, David represented Tribe as the Manchester Campus Ambassador.
And David's work was so impressive, he was given the prestigious Herzl Award for 2005.
David, who takes up his new role in September, said: "I'll be based in London, but my job will also include looking after the other Jewish communities throughout Britain."
The Tribe fieldworker is a newly created one year post, with its roles including further developing the hi-tech Tribe Resource Centre.
David added: "I hope I can bring extra dynamism and resource to our communities the length and breadth of Britain."
Tribe executive director Rabbi Andrew Shaw said: "It promises to be a fun and exciting year ahead with David in the Tribe team."
