NEW SIDDUR COMES WITH CD
The Chief Rabbi's new siddur is already a sell-out - a week before it is launched.
Sir Jonathan Sacks said: "I want the siddur to be part of a much wider programme to enhance the role of prayer in communal life."
The new Singers prayer book will be accompanied by a CD containing his reflections on the nature of prayer. There is also synagogue music by Chazan Lionel Rosenfeld and the Shabbaton Choir, chazanim Shimon Craimer, Moshe Heschel, Stephen Robins and Nic Gilbert and the Ne'imah Singers.
For mourners there is a transliteration of the Kaddish, as weil as a list of Psalms for special occasions.
Sir Jonathan's translation is not only written in accessible English but it also mirrors the rhythm of the Hebrew text. Poetic texts are translated into verse. The Hebrew and English texts are very clear and there is a special Reader's Edition for those needing large print.
The English text was edited by former Mancunian Sorelle Weinstein (nee Wachmann).
