"A single life, said the sages, is like a universe. Save a life and you save a world. Change a life and you begin to change the world."
Chief Rabbi Lord Sacks
Would you know what to do in those valuable few minutes before the ambulance arrived? An emergency situation can strike at any time, at any place in the community. A matter of seconds and a basic first aid knowledge can save a life.
US Chesed organises tailored first aid courses for our synagogues. These can be either Adult or Paediatric courses and can cover a comprehensive range of topics including:
Incident Management, Contents of a First Aid kit, HSE and the Law, Accident books and reporting, Casualty Assessment, Top to toe survey, Recovery Position, CPR, Paediatric and baby CPR, Choking, Baby Choking, Bleeding, Burns, Breaks, Faint, Imbalance of heat, Shock, Heart Attack (plus Angina), Stroke, Head Injuries, Asphyxia (Breathing Disorders), Poison, Epilepsy, Diabetes, Eye Injuries, Sprains, Stings and Splinters, Bandaging, and Defibrillation.
We also organise the certified First Aid at Work course for those aged 16 and over.
The Halacha of administering First Aid, for example, on Shabbat and fast days is also an important element of these courses, which is presented by our trainers as part of the course.
We aim to train our community as much as possible in vital life-saving skills and equip synagogues with the necessary first aid equipment. Arm yourself with a basic knowledge of first aid and be there when somebody needs you.
