Champions of Change


WHAT IS CHAMPIONS OF CHANGE?

‘Champions of Change’ is a new leadership initiative run by the Community Division of the United Synagogue. The ethos of the initiative is to further enhance community management patterns in the United Synagogue by identifying and investing in dynamic innovators with the knowledge and skills to deliver the best practice in community leadership.

‘Champions of Change’ is a twelve-month modular programme designed to fit into a busy working and personal life. The United Synagogue meets all tuition fees plus travel and residential costs. Participants receive training in community transformation management alongside coaching and mentoring from experienced professionals.

Participants are expected to demonstrate commitment and enthusiasm in assuming communal leadership responsibilities in the year following the completion of the course.

Programme

The leadership Initiative consists of the following four key elements:

1. Individual mentoring

Individual mentoring will be a key aspect of the programme and will focus on both communal and personal development. The programme will offer each participant a mentor to help him/her clarify and achieve goals. Mentors will have undergone training to ensure that the participants receive a high standard of delivery and each Champion will be carefully matched with a mentor whom they will meet over the duration of the programme.

2. Leadership Retreats

Two weekend leadership retreats will be held in order to gain insight into the existential and religious importance of the Shabbat experience to Jewish community cohesion. Participants will reflect as a group on congregational growth and development by exploring the whole range of a Synagogues’ services and activities.

3. International Seminar

One of the fundamental values of the United Synagogue is ‘the centrality of Israel to Jewish Life’. The international Seminar therefore offers participants the chance to learn in Israel with some of the Jewish worlds’ top educators.

4. Programme Modules

These Modules will provide participants with an opportunity to consider community strategy, vision and leadership implementation.
