Geoffrey Hartnell - Treasurer

Geoffrey was elected Treasurer in 2008, after holding the post of Vice-President.
He has been a Trustee of the United Synagogue for the past nine years. Prior to being elected US Treasurer in 1997, Geoffrey served as Financial Representative of Bushey for just over two years, overseeing a debt reduction of nearly £200,000.

During his first triennial as a Trustee, Geoffrey acted as the divisional Treasurer for the Community Services Group with direct responsibility for the AJE, US Cares and Communities. This led to the formation of the highly successful Regional Forums which have provided an opportunity for the decision makers in the local synagogues to meet on a regular basis with neighbouring communities while benefiting from direct access to Trustees and employees of the US.

This interaction with communities has been further developed during the last triennial following Geoffrey’s re-election as a Trustee, this time in the capacity of Vice-President. Strongly committed to the principles of Modern Orthodoxy, Geoffrey looks forward to “working with a vibrant team mindful of the constraints of Halacha, but forward thinking in its inclusivity of all Jews irrespective of their level of observance.”
