Our President & Trustees

The Trustees of the United Synagogue are elected to take on overall responsibility for what is a large and complex charity. They serve for a three-year term. The current team assumed office in July 2008.

Simon Hochhauser - President

Dr Simon Hochhauser has been President of the United Synagogue since July 2005. He was a Vice-President of the United Synagogue for a period of six years until 2005 during which he chaired the Religious Affairs Group. He was President of the London Board for Shechita between 2003 and 2005, and presided over the celebrations marking its 200th anniversary.

Simon is one of the UK’s leading entrepreneurs in the growing broadband telecommunications sector. He is Executive Chairman of Telinet Limited. He was the founder and Chief Executive of Video Networks Limited, the company behind the pioneering HomeChoice broadband video on demand and interactive television service. In the 1980s he was Chief Executive of the Venture Capital Division of the J Rothschild Group. Simon has a Ph.D. in Mathematical Physics He was educated at Haberdashers’ Aske’s School and Gateshead Yeshiva.
