We have recently developed a new interactive curriculum where pupils are encouraged to explore, discover and appreciate their Jewish heritage. The curriculum offers a range of age appropriate educational activities, with an emphasis on using multi-sensory methods, combining formal and informal teaching approaches.
The overall focus is on 'learning through experience’, we believe Judaism should be experienced as a living entity, rather than being taught as subject. The carefully designed Chaggim ‘Spiral Curriculum’ builds on previous knowledge each year through ‘Formative Assessment’ and includes clear ‘Learning Intentions’ for each lesson to avoid repetition year on year.
Hebrew Reading is a fundamental part of Jewish education, though not always easy to learn. United Synagogue, in conjunction with Aleph Champion USA, have developed a new updated version of the popular Aleph Champ programme. This exciting reading system is based on the martial arts motivational philosophy of colour-coded levels and testing.
The Hebrew alphabet, vowels and word formations are divided into 8 coloured levels. Students start out as 'White Aleph Champs' working their way up to become a 'Brown Aleph Champ'. This engaging and structured programme is an exciting way for children to start their journey of learning to read Hebrew and ensure a solid foundation. This popular programme is being used in most Chadarim and many Jewish Primary schools in the UK.
